I’ve always loved the Pero sensibility, and I’ve always enjoyed the shows at fashion week and honestly, its inevitably, and so rightfully named @ilovepero on Instagram for a reason! <3 Every collection has got its own charm, and every piece speaks to you with so much love! Perl SS17 was a treat to watch, and I knew right off-the-bat that day at AIFW, when I watched their digital show on a screen, that I wanted my first Shapeshifter story to be out in the wild, embracing daylight!
It was a long drive, in the middle of December. Waking up at three in the morning was the plan! “Bro, can you make it for 05:30AM, my house? I’ll have the driver.” – a text message.
I’ve known Rema to be one person that loves to go out into the wild, literally, and find the most amazing locations to shoot – clear skies, morning light, fresh air, THE WORKS! – We’d been wanting to do a story for Shapeshifter for so long now, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect! Off we went into the navy, hazy morning sky. It was still dark out, and not even fifteen minutes into the drive to Nasik, there we were, passed out AF! Finally to wake up all woozy just as the sun woke up. Almost two and a half, three hours later, we had arrived. As we drove up to the place off the Nasik Highway, it was like the sunlight was guiding us into wonderland! The first thing I remember seeing was a fort in the distance, and the sun slowly showing face, and all I could think to myself was “where the ‘eff’ have I been all my life, and WHY did I not know about this place – LIKE EVER…?!?!”
Walking up into the trail was a different adventure. Long story short, we did a few test shots for lighting and a little recon for background, in the process, I found trees to climb, giant clusters of cacti – I’m saying HUUUGE, walked up a waterfall, and even managed to baptize my brand new white chucks into muddy water! I called Justine, and told her she HAD to do hair for this, because and ONLY because she would LOVE the place too! ALL, WORTH IT, and this was just a recce day!
Shoot morning was upon us. The three of us plus one Mr. Yadav (Rema’s main main driver guy), had some chai at a nearby place off the highway, and were ready for the sun!
The first change, was already on me and we stopped at our spot and Justine starts to yank at my locks and we’re trying to do hair and makeup together, while Yadav’s having a great time watching all of this, as Rema goes off into the field to start finding spots again! FUN TIMES AHEAD! Anyway, we start shooting, and then its time for a change, and amazingly enough, there’s no one in sight, and Mr. Y has gone for a long walk down the road, and I’m happily undressing, smack in the middle of sun kissed hay – what a thrill! So, I did this all six or seven times, and we were done by 10:30AM! After that, we decided to take in the open sky and the blistering hot sun (because god knows ‘we’ need us some vitamin D, haha), got back into the car and off to eat some idli for breakfast at the highway pitstop we went!
